Air Fittings: The Engineering Marvel For Pumps
06 February 2023Even though they are small, air fittings and connectors are a very important part of how well air compressors and the tools they are used with work as a whole. The fittings ensure that the air and pressure in the hoses stay the same so that the air tools keep working well. It is very important for the safe and effective use of your air tools to have fittings and couplers that are made to last and work well. With our high-quality air tool fittings and couplers, you can extend your air supply or make more complicated air systems to meet your needs. To ensure the equipment works as well as it can, the fittings must be kept in good shape.
What Are Air Fittings?
Air fittings ensure that air flows and pressure stay the same throughout the machine. Each fitting does something different, but they are all important to the health and function of your unit. When you need to replace the fittings on your air compressor, you should ensure you have the right size. Most air compressor fitting sizes follow the National Pipe Tapered (NPT) standard, which shows the thread size. Using an NPT chart, you should measure and determine the size of your pipes for a fitting. With that information, you can find the different air compressor fittings you may need.
How Air Fittings Are Measured
Many of the hoses in our range come with an end fitting already attached so that you can connect them to your air compressor and tools immediately. Any extra couplers you need will be the same size.
If you’re still unsure what size you need, it’s easy: measure the diameter of your hose to find out what size coupler you need. There are a lot of different kinds of air fittings, but most air tools only use a few. The right type and thread size are the most important things to consider. Some common types of screws are 14″ BSP, 14″ PCL, and 3/8″ NPT.
Plugs And Couplers
Plugs and couplers belong together. No matter what style you choose for your coupler, the plug must be the same. The most important thing you need to know about a plug is its flow size or the air it can handle. Most standard air compressors need a plug with a flow size of either 1/2 inch or 1/4 inch. The smaller size is more common.
Like couplers, plugs come in different styles. It’s up to you which style of fitting you want, but automotive and industrial fittings are more common and easier to find at chain hardware stores. When buying an air compressor plug, quality and fit are the most important things to look for. Choose a brand with a good reputation for quality to keep compressed air from leaking.
Join Together Two Air Fittings
Most hoses come with either a screw-on connection or a quick-release connection. A male thread would screw into a female thread, while a quick male release would plug into a quick female release. To connect two lines, you may need a coupling. We have a wide range of couplings, and to keep things simple, any air compressor or hose would use a 14″ BSP thread or quick-release coupling.
If you use couplings, there is no real limit to how long the hose can be. Generally, it is always better to have a single longer hose than a bunch of shorter ones connected. Pressure drop is more likely to happen when there are more connections.
